Public School No. 13 and Public School No. 15

Public School No. 13, named after Eliza Orzeszkowa, was established in 1913 as a Jewish municipal school, and Public School No. 15 was founded in 1919. After the introduction of compulsory, state-funded education in Poland, both schools were situated in the former barracks of the Russian 42nd Mitav Dragoon Regiment, a building constructed by Jewish entrepreneur Michał Hertz. The two schools had a total of 26 classes, attended by 1,500 Jewish students.
