On September 22, 1942, as the Częstochowa ghetto was liquidated, Germans and auxiliary police killed hundreds of Jews, creating mass graves within the ghetto area surrounded by a strict cordon, beyond which no one was allowed out. Empty lots on 20 and 22 Kawia Street were selected, and in time 2 mass graves were established there.
A commando of Jewish wagoners and gravediggers carried the bodies of 1,600 murdered people to Kawia Street, with at least 400 Jews killed on-site. The lowest documented count of victims at this location is 2,000.
Komando żydowskich furmanów i grabarzy zwiozło na ulicę Kawią ciała 1600 zamordowanych osób, co najmniej 400 Żydów zabito na miejscu. Ogólna liczba 2000 ofiar to najniższa z podawanych w dokumentach i opracowaniach.
