Municipal Synagogue (Old Synagogue)

In 1804, the Jewish community in Częstochowa received permission to build a city synagogue. They established it, along with a mikveh (ritual bath), near the Warta River. In 1834, on the same property, they began constructing a bet midrash (house of prayer and study), which, unlike the unheated synagogue, was also used in winter. Adjacent to this area was a kosher poultry slaughterhouse. The Germans destroyed the synagogue in September 1939 and closed the bet midrash, later using it as a temporary shelter for refugees and those displaced from other cities. After liquidating the small ghetto, the Germans demolished all these buildings and ordered the expansion of Mirowska Street through the area.
