Selection and Execution Site, Daszyński Square

The deportation of the Jewish population to the extermination camp in Treblinka began on the morning of September 22, 1942. The first selection of individuals for transport took place on Krótka Street, in front of the “Metalurgia” gate, and the next selections occurred at the New Market Square. The commander of the German police, Hauptmann Paul Degenhardt, singled out a few individuals to remain in Częstochowa, while the rest were directed to the train at the Warta freight station (now Samuel Willenberg Square).
