Prusicki Synagogue

Moshe Prusicki, the owner of the property at Aleja NMP 1, built a large synagogue in the courtyard in the 1890s. After his death in 1909, his heirs sold the building, which was acquired by a Zionist organization in Częstochowa in 1918 and renamed Shaar Zion (Gate of Zion), although it was still commonly referred to as the Prusicki Synagogue until the 1930s. During the occupation, after the destruction of both the Old Synagogue and the New Synagogue, it became the last functioning synagogue in the city. The Council of Elders organized ceremonial funeral services here for notable residents of Częstochowa.
